Is a pretty cool game. Of course, New Blood Interactive hasn't released the last two levels, but so far. Holy shit. Great game. It's very fast paced, and honestly, my laptop despite being able to run Far Cry Primal without any issues but Ultrakill just tanks the framerate for some reason.
To be fair, the framerate issues are likely due to the sheer amount of shit happening at once. Like, some levels have damn high double digits of enemies. And that's not even mentioning the Fruad layer which has entire levels designed to push the bounds or geometry and my ability to not get motion sickenss.
Like Devil May Cry and Bayentta, Ultrakill is a stylish game. In other words, play more stylish, get more points, and heal faster in the case of Ultrakill. It's pretty fun and makes you think out of the box. For example, you can parry most bullets, including your own guns bullets. Or another example is that you can flick a coin into the air and shoot it with any of your guns and it directs the bullet to the nearest high-ranking enemy's weak spot. Combos are fun as hell in Ultrakill.
Also, you can't talk Ultrakill without talking Heaven Pierce Her, or Hakito's kick ass sound-track. I mean, come on. Just listen to the Cyber-grid theme and come back. Doesn't it sound absolutely badass Dear Reader? Doesn't it feel like you can parry an angel before using pocket change to send it packing? You can in Ultrakill. Personally, my favourites are War without A reason, Event Horizon, Spiral (keep going), the theme from God Damn the Sun, No Devil Lived on, Mirror Rim... Okay, most if not all of the soundtrack.
And than it's the sandbox half of it. Yep, I freaking love how the games works. It's only got a handful of guns, each with about three varients. So, you have a revolver, shotgun, railcannon, nailgun, rocket launcher and a few optional weapons like the jackhammer and slab revolver. Each of these weapons have three varitents and eac varient usually has two fire modes. Note, not all weapons have the alt-fire mode, such as the rail cannon, but most has.
The environments are also fantastic. I am aware of Dante's Inferno by being well, Christian and a nerd, which more or less means I had expectations. But the designs in Ultrakills hell, just makes sense. Greed is a desert of gold that has been warmed by the sun into hot motlen metal that burns. Gluttony is a giant flesh level ala early 2000s with jaws and eyes and ew gross flesh. Or Violence having a giant never ending war. Or Limbo which looks like the Truman show. And... Well, you get the idea. You really have to check it out yourself.
Ultrakill also has a pretty fast-pace. I already mildly mentioned but I don't thing I explained it nearly well enough. When I say you're going to have to bounce from one target to another before imediately dodging away from environmental hazards and also keeping an eye on the sometimes changing environment... Look, most youtube videos reviewing Ultrakill treated the game like a "shooter for the mentally ill" for a freaking reason. Most of the gameplay will include you have to jump, slide, dash, parry, shoot, switch weapons, switch arms, grapple and so on every second of combat.
Here's the thing. I could go one for literal hours gushing about everything from how metal the level names are to how cool the gunplay is to the awesome enemies designs but I think you've gotten the idea. I really like Ultrakill. I'm kinda mildly tempted to make a fan-trailer or edit for what we've gotten so far but slowly getting all the best footage is taking time (I'm trying to get Fraud clips now, which uh... Look, Fraud levels are long and I'm lazy) and I've got work soon. So... Don't hold your breath on that, okay?
