Look, I would like to say something rather interesting. Death is not the worst that could happen to you. In horror, mostly. But I really feel like people kinda miss this sometimes, but I quite believe that death is a somewhat lackluster fear in stories.
Not that the concept of dath is never handled really well in meida, but I really like the concept of media that explores the more horrifing concept of death not being the worst thing possible. In other words, damnation is always more scary than just death.
The reason why death is scary in real life is the loss of your normal life and the unknown after death. But here's the thing, media can be way worse with the fear of things worse than death.
Think about it. While death is scary it is a point, an end. But it could be argued that it is way better than if, say, you spend eternity healing, getting your liver ripped out, waking up, healing, getting your liver ripped out, waking up... You get the idea. One atleast ends, if you don't believe you'd end up in hell or that hell exsists.
But that is why I think some mythologies have a sort of 'eternal, never ending' punishment. Promethesis has he chains and liver eating eagle, Loki has his son's guts for ropes and poison dripping onto his face, the watchers have watching their childern murder eachother, Satan has his frozen layer in hell and heck, even Fenrir has the chains and damnation. I just thing it's kinda a consistant thing that.
Personally, I really love that concept. How terrifing it is to be unable to die. Imagine being stuck in
