Holy shit, dudes! RESIDENT EVIL 6 IS KICK ASS!:

Preface:

As you could see, I have already played Resident Evil 5. I have started Resident Evil 4 but due to my playstation not wanting to save the run so far, I don't entirely try that run. So, I haven't played much Resident Evil. So if you are a Resident Evil fan, or even if you aren't, it's only fair that you know that I am comparing Resident evil 6 to Resident Evil 5.

I will break this down into the three local co-op campeigns.

For all three:

Mostly because of limited ammo, I defualted to melee. It was pretty good. Movement was way faster than Resident Evil 5. Although, shooting was still great. Aimming at specific limbs are still a great stresser point.

Also, the co-op team being split up was brough back from Resident Evil 5. Which is always great as it makes each player feel like they're actually helping, you know? It's very cool. Plus it does make those moments much more stressful.

Also, every boss was a serious stress to fight. Plus, great boss designs all over the place. each one felt unique and fit the story they were in. Especially Jake and Sherry's boss, but I'll talk more in the separation part.

The guns each player character is given packs a reasonably punch. Again there was a one shot machine gun, the Smith and Western, but again ammo. Ammo is always scarce. And trying to make it last, means you ought to rely on either good shots every time or try to use melee as often as you can.

I will say that Resident 6 is quite fast paced. Stuff is always happening all the time everytime. I mean, come on. Look, Resident Evil 5 was also fast paced, but while Resident Evil 5 was more thriller horror, Resident Evil 6 is more action horror.

Another thing, is how fun it is to playe the stories. Mostly because they intersect at some points, which means you get to see the story following one group before all of the context changed when you switch to another character group. Love it.

Leon and Helen:

The Leon and Helen run through was very fun. First of all, we did it first. And the story was more survivor focused over all. You have to watch ammo, and there's always a lot of zombies. Like, a lot more than the other run throughs.

While there is more zombies they are more like the normal sort of zombies. Which makes it play more like a zombie movie, if that makes sense. Plus, it was nice to have more of a focus on trying to help people.

Plus, moving further on, this mood had way more quick time events. This really helps for feeling like you're hanging on by the skin of your teeth. Always on the backfoot or always having to adapt to deal with the new issues being thrown at you.

Also, the boss of this run. Insane. It is one of those long running bosses, where you encounter the boss about mid way through the story before he becomes a semi-regular issue to deal with. The boss is annoying in all the right ways and finally defeating him was very very satisfying.

Chris and Piers:

I would like to say, that we played this one right over we finished Leon and Helen's run. So, we were geared for more survivor horror. But Chris and Piers story was more along the lines of military horror. Which was pretty kick ass.

Chris and Piers are probably the stand outs from the story. Just... No spoliers. I loved it. It was great. Really great. Both charactors are well written and honestly, my brother and I really warmed up to Piers by the end. I high recommend it.

The main gameplay gimmick of this run is having access to auto-guns right off the bat. With Piers, who my brother played as, getting a sniper rifle from the start. Again, spliting up is going to happen and as long as Piers has your back though it you'd be doing great.

And the boss of the story? Yeah, it gave me Wesker flashbacks. It was a rough fight, but also very fun. Definately relies on teamwork and being agile. Which also means I ran out of herbs like a tenth of the second phase out.

And as a minor titbit, my brother and I had a consistant joke of Chris refering how this was "just like Africa" (Resident Evil 5 for those out of the know) and lementing that Sheva wasn't helping him right now. Pretty fun.

Jake and Sherry:

Now this one was way more hectice. Since half the story is us in completely different parts of the world as the rest. Which means, things are way more chaotic nonsense.

Namely, the boss. The main BOW enemy chasing Jake and Sherry down is tough as nails, fast as hell and very very determined to kill Jake in particular. Which lead to me having to pull the usual SoulsBorne stratigy of, run away, dodge, run away, dodge.

I will say, like Piers, Jake really grew on me this story run. I kinda hated him at first because he was somewhat coldish to Sherry, and that's a no-no to me. But he grew on me. Plus, it helps that he has way better melee combat skills than any of the others.

And the story run was more focused on rough combat and well, you know, running from the BOW designed to hunt down Jake in particular like a messed up human bloodhound. I well say, the story was almost entirely perfect, execpt the ending fight taking me a little out in the same way Chris punching a bolder did in Resident Evil 5. And I will not elaborate for fear of spoliers. But all is well that ends well, you know?

Conclusion:

So, other than Ada's story, which I am yet to play through. I quite liked this game. It was fun, somewhat scary on some parts. I would say that Resident Evil 5 was a bit more scary. I think we died a thousand times to the first chainsaw zombie guy, but it was not just action. It was pretty good all in all. At least for the storyline between all three groups and I assume Ada as well.

Go back?
