Look, I don't hate any of the actors, or crew or so on involved, but I really am getting sick of these damn media representations of Norse Mytholgy. I mean, for fuck's sake, why is it okay to make jokesabout a cultural thing like mythology? Am I fucking stupid here?
And don't get me wrong, I mean this for all mythologies, including Christian and Greek and Hindu and so on. I hate it when mythologies are used as a sort of gimick. I mean, do I always use the moniker or Fenrir and can that be seen as something off colour? Yesn't. At least when I do it it's not a multi-millon dollar company that people fucking trust. And when I do it, I can at least promise that I go out of my way to double check that what I'm doing in terms of mythology was double checked, fucking hell.
Look I think Mythology is an amazing thing. It's a neat way to understand the cultural norms and understandings of a cultur. Like, want to know why Christians do Holy Communion? Read the Bible, learn. But for fucks sake is it annoying to see people misunderstand this shit. Like take my boy Hades. He's not a bad person, or a good person, he's the god of wealth and the underworld, not the fucking god of death! That's Thanatos. And no, dumbass, Hades and Persephone, or Proserpina, were not always depicted as a cutsy lovey dovey couple. It's not Christianity where things are black and white.
Fuck, take Loki for another example. It's likely that the current understanding of him is not how the original Norse understood him. Same as Hel. But noo. We all look at other myths as either fucking stupid or really simple. Most none monotheist religions didn't have a 'solely good' god or 'solely evil' gods. Like, fuck Loki for everything he did, Balder included, but that doesn't make him satan. It's not the same one to one idea.
I guess I am so freaking tired of these weird disrespect to mythology and stories and fairytales and so on. Like, come on. I don't like things being changed. I will never like things changing at all. It's a slippery slope that leads to bad thing and cultural errasure and I hate few things more than cultural errasure.
Note this isn't just a Marvel problem, it includes God of War mostly the new one, Gods of Egypt, fucking Lore Olympas... Just... I really wish that movies dealing with mythology and fairy tales either respect the concept or just accept that they're gonna have fn with it, like The Mummy or Kevin Sorbo's Hercules, or the disney's Hercules. You can have fn with mythology, but than you've gotta either make a damn good plot or go full comedy.
