I do get that it's not a good idea to let people have access to things they are not prepared for. You know, no one wants to open an app and get slammed with a gorefest or something. I mean come on. It's so stupidly annoying with things like Elsa Gate and all that.
BUT. And this is a serious but here. I do not like the whole idea of censoring things morally. The challenge is that it's a slipery slope, you start banning gore and NSFW and what really counts as those two things? I mean, is gore legally any violence? Does fictional gore count as real enough to be censored as well? What about just changing the colour of blood to pink or white like some anime does, would that work. I mean, functional, gore can be bent to meet any means needed by the governements, man.
I mean, take the fact that the legal term for things like snuff isn't the commonly used term of it. Legal snuff is any film that involves the death of a person for profit by selling the film, so legally, there is very little snuff films actually. But in normal people understanding snuff is just anything that is a gore or NSFW video, mostly spread on the interent, so it would include actual filmed tradgedies or things like A Million Tears (videos of animal abuse).
Now I know the full paragraph up there just sounded like I was describing the whole reason for censorship, but that's not really the solution. This content was already shared illegaly, or in the case of A Million Tears, was not seen as illegal enough to be a a serious offence. What the current fixation on censorship works with is just... what ever the government says.
Like what stops a government from saying you can't be an amatur journalist and post evidence of a hate crime. Or you can show religious idealogy. Or fuck, you can't post that cool horror story you made. I mean, for fucks sake, this is so bloody annoying! The whole censorship thing is just pushing people who do bad things to move further and further into the dark, all while badgering us to high hell for exsisting!
Like I get why this started, all due respect Normies freaking the fuck out over an actually shitty NSFW Ero game that looks like shite, but for all that is good. Why are we all being punished for this? What'd the rest of us do? And why the fixation on shadow banning all the Hentai and Ero stuff? Am I confused. It's like, wow, good job now go ban all the dark romance books, than go and ban all of the ero manga and hey while you're at it why don't you ban scince for depictions of male and female anatomy, oh and all religious books for depicting violence or NSFW, oh and let's blind everyone so they never see anything not child friendly.
Just... I fucking hate this new Satatanic Panic. We tried this before, god damn it. It sucked. You can't try to blame media for bad actions, when it's likely not the source. It's like that one time where people blamed Doki Doki Literature Club for a kids suicide. Like, I don't know about that guys, do you know how the game depicts it? How it tries to show how horrific and disturbing such an act is? Like, all due respect if it was DDLC's fault then way more people who played the game would be doing it. Or how people freaked out because of Manhunt, or because of Gay media, or beacuse of metal or because of punks and goths. We did this before!
I am so tired fo this shit, man. It's such a stupid thing to try and all it's going to do is make people want to carve out new free spaces, which is somewhat good, places like NeoCities is more of a communty to it than places like Reddit or Twitter since it's more focusing on creating your own little place, but it still sucks that places we had before are somewhat pushing us out.
