Not often, or usually at least not with real money. But I do like games of chance. My parents bought me a poker set for one of my birthdays and I taught my mom how to play so we did for like a few hours. It's pretty fun.
And, when it comes down to video game gambling, I love myself some roulette and poker. Hence, playing a lot of Baltro and Buckshot Roulette. So, thought I'll just nerd out about it a bit.
I quite like buckshot roulette. It's pretty fun, even when they start adding more mechanics like the magnifing glass or the handcuffs. They really up the stakes and let you play more strategically. Kinda. I still died alot...
I also remember getting into a hour long discussion with my brother because of both of us thing percentages have a different way of being worded. I said, because I was on round three, but I had one live and one blank it was a 50/50 on it being a live. He said that it should take in account the other possibilies that happened throughout the prior rounds to be closer to a 80/20 chance for a live over all. But it was mostly funny as we grabbed a4 pages to draw diagrams and what not.
Oh and the feel of the game is fantastic. The audio design is soo good and the creator made great us of the more gritty and industrial style. It feel so good to play the game and it sounds and looks as good.
Also bonus points for having a game where my gameplay freaked my brother out. Apparently, I take too many risks.
Balatro on the other hand is just fun poker. You can use jokers to stack the deck in your favour which is fun. I managed to get a card that counts all the jokers and gives me a multiplier bonus for each blank joker spot, another joke which earns value each round it is held, and finally a joker that adds my total money into a bonus for the score. I was raking in the cash until one of the blinds just stole all my money and than I lost.
Oh, I also like to spend most of my rounds trying to either pad out my deck with more playing cards or to keep buy planet cards to level up hands. It is very cool to win a blind with nothing by a two pair because of either jokers or your other cards. I highly recommend it.
It's pretty good. You get to play a proper game of high stakes poker. I would say, my proudest win was bluffing everyone else and getting them to fold when I just had a high card. That was funny. Like, "dudes, I only had a king. I would've lost." Although, that only worked once.
It's also fun when you get to end game and more or less have to play one-on-one against just one other player. Than it's more or less just a tense stand off. One wrong move and you can loose an advantage. Pretty fun stuff right there.
I know how to play blackjack as well as Seven Cards, five hand poker, omaha poker and texas hold 'em poker. All are really great for if you have to wait at a resterant for food or are wasting time during the evening or whatever.
Although my parents are a nigthmare to play against. My Dad has the luck of the devil and the impaitence to do dumb moves, while my mom will get compertative and win damn near every time.
On the plus side, I'm kinda too implusive to have a plan to ruin. Plus I tend to forget hands and thus have the perfect poker face. I can't be read if there's nothing going on between my ears to read.
One time I did win a round with a full house consitanting of three sixes and a pair of aces. Which was pretty cool. I felt like I was in a twilight zone episode or something.
My brother and I also went to a localish casino. It's pretty fun, when it's quiet. We tried slots but quickly got annoyed by how little control there was in it. I don't enjoy games that are just chance, I prefer more of a skill plus chance game.
So, we moved to video roulette. It was pretty fun. We did loose six rand though, but we wheren't betting with money we needed. I find that it's usually, I only bet money like I'm playing at an arcade. I have a budget, stick to it, and only play for the fun of the game.
The casino is actually a pretty cool tourist location in general. It has a lot of more foregin stores and even a nerdy store. The nerdy store also had this really nice cashier so we chatted for a bit before I waster like almost 100 bucks on dice. In my defence, they were pretty cool dice styled to look all bloodsplattered. Pretty cool.
But most people go there for either the casino or the resterants surrounding the casino.
That actually reminds me. There is the PS2 and PSP game where you can just mess around in a casino. The objective is to beat all the casino games to unlock other casino's to play in but you can also just mill about.
It actually had a lot of games in it too. You have the usuals, like poker, blackjack, roulette and slots. But also, craps, sports betting, horse races and video poker and roulette.
It's pretty fun and you can even watch someone explain the game rules to you which is cool. Most of the games are pretty fun, execpt for craps. I don't know how that works. I lost a lot of in-game cash trying to figure it out, so stuff that. I don't like it.
The game also has random people who will sometimes heckle you or talk to you. Like one person might interupt your game to ask for you to give them some cash. Or someone might buy you a drink or someone might challenge you to beat them at a game.
Now that I think about it, it's more or less a casino rpg. You can even create a character to do a full run with. It's pretty cool, all things considered.
I also watched a Alfrid Hitchcock episode with some gambling. I don't think I should spoil it but it was pretty fun. My brother and I were trying to keep track of the characters hands and what not.
We also watched some professional poker tournements and damn those guys are good. Although, the presenters are pretty funny. Half the time they're talking about something unrealated to everything else. Like it would start on topic and than just spiral off to a talk about another game, and than where the player came from, and than if that place has good meat or about a personal annodate. Hell, you could just watch it for the tangents.
I kinda wanted to write a story or something with someone playing against the devil or something like that. I just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe I should try to crack it out soon though.
