Beyond Citidel is interesting:

Wait what?

Right so usually, I tend to enjoy scrolling through well, sites of games. You know the uh... yarr, sort. And one I found was a game called Beyond Citidel. It's a 2.5d anime "boomer shooter". At least that's how that was explained, I'd say that was a pretty shit explaination.

It was more along the lines of a FPS styled like a boomer shooter but with all the nicities of morden shooters. Such as, leaning, being able to look up and down and sprint and crouch. It's a boomer shooter in visuals only and that's fine.

I mean this as nicely as I can, but most modern day "boomer shooters" aren't boomer shooters in the way Doom is. If that makes sense. Technology and gamplay has jumped leaps and bounds, so most modern day games don't play like older games. Not that there's anything wrong with either, I'm just not a fan of the whole "boomer shooter" game label. It's like "souls-likes" being used to described any hard game, it's mildly inaccurate and that pisses me off.

Okay, and tell us more about Beyond Citidel?

I've only finished about two bosses, so I don't know everything about it but here's what I know so far. You play as "The Martyr" a kick-ass "girl?" who's diving into a post apcolpytical Eath to regain access to some artifacts that your "brother?" has sent you to get.

The game is very themed around hell and heaven. With some fun aspects such as the skill system being named after the seven deadly sins and seven heavenly virtues. Your allies are a wide verities of religious fighters and mechanical angels.

The environments are also very well designed. With quite a bit of verity. Hell, my one complaint with it is it's sometimes hard to figure out what you are supposed to do to progress. Some levels need you to turn on switches or find batteries so far and well... On one hand it's nice that the game doesn't hold your hand, on the other, I'm stupid (check a similary named blog post earlier).

Oh, the gunplay. Well, let's talk about the gunplay. It's freaking great. Fantastic. I love it. You can lean around corners, head shots work and you can use melee weapons. Not to mention, healing is very complex for a fps game like this. For example, you have o2 as your stamina, and healing that doesn't heal your health, besides, steadily using o2 canisters does slowly reduce the max ammount of stamina you have access to, so instead you have to eat on top of it as well. This also applies to health.

I should also mention. Guns work interestingly here. You can either rapid reload a gun by just pressing R but loose the magizane in the effect. Or you could press X to remove the magizane, refull it with bullets before reinserting it and than maybe cock the gun if it's needed. Yeah, that's how you reload almost every gun, aside from guns which don't have magizanes.

I quite like it, actually. It limits how you engage enemies. Such as, if you bump into a group of people who are more than you have have ammo in your clip, you're going to have to quickly back-up and start working on reloading your gun before trying to start the fight up again. Or if you're like me, you'd just switch to shotguns or another weapon you have on tap.

Alternatively, you can also just use a melee weapons like an axe or a pair of karambits. Which, while more risky, as you have to be right up and personal with the enemies, but it uses no ammo and is mildly kick ass.

Hmm... Now wants the thing you're not telling me?

It... It might be a gooner game. I mean... Hard to say, but some of the character art diffinately hangs closer towards... well... H-have you ever watched an anime and while it's very good, you feel like it had a manga form that was likely more hentai than just action, you know?

I haven't yet seen the full game, so the courts out on weither it is a fully horny game or no, but at the moment, it's a suprisingly heartwarming romp. Like, your brother (maybe) seems to be sickly and sad that he's not able to be up-and-active like you. Which really makes the poor guy quite sad. I mean, come on. I don't want to see this rip out my heart and make me feel sad for this fictional 2d brother.

Plus, I'm not exactly unused to reading or seeing more ero content from Japan or styled as if it is. It's really nothing new to me. But I do suppose you're like to know about that before you try to play or get the game if you're not into that.

So, the end, eh?

Game's pretty good. I played three hours straight of it and honestly got horribly fixated on it. It's fun. Very fun. It might get a little ero but it hasn't jumped into hentai yet, so? And the gameplay is very fun and unique.
